Before we make the spicy beef burger, start by basic hygiene, washing hands, cleaning the counter and tying your hair back! Then, we are going to start with the veg preparations! Peel your onion and your garlic, and then set the garlic to the side while we do the onion!

On your veg chopping board, you want to finely dice the onion! A good tip is to keep the root on and cut down it in long strips, but do not disconnect it all. Then once you have done that, cut two diagonal, horizontal lines in the middle cutting halfway through the onion, then continuing to dice normally. You want to dice your veg as small as you can, and this technique can get them small!

Once you have diced the onion, you can keep going over it, cutting it up even smaller until you think it is small enough! Then, get a big chef’s knife and put your onion on a plate at the side. Put the knife face down onto the garlic until you hear a crushing noise, and then dice it up into really small pieces.

You could even cut the garlic so small that it starts to become a paste, using the edge of the knife (blade) to blend it out by pushing it hard into the cutting board and then dragging it across your chopping board, until it becomes a fine paste. If you need help making the paste, click here.

Now it is time to add your spices! This is what makes it a spicy beef burger, but the onions and the garlic probably chip in for that as well! Add the garlic and the onions into your large bowl, this is where the mince will be going in a bit. Once you have put the veg into the bowl, weigh in your 2,5ml of curry powder, followed by the 2.5ml paprika or any other spices.

Add in the tablespoon of egg, this combines them all and will help stick the meat in too! Add in your egg and stir it with a knife. Then, you can add the beef to the big bowl! Be very careful at this point about cross-contamination and dealing with raw meat, especially since we will be using our hands!

Get your hands in the bowl and start sticking the vegetables and the beef altogether, forming it into a ball shape. As I mentioned earlier the egg will be combining it all, but so will the liquids. Once you have gotten everything into a ball (it might be a bit crumbly but that is okay, just stick it back onto the side of the ball and press it in) Sit it either on a meat chopping board, or a plate.

You can either just flatten the spicy beef burger with a fish slice, or you can use a biscuit cutter to make it into a perfect circle!

Start heating some oil in your pan, and once you can see that it is heated, just carefully put your burger into the pan. Now you will want to cook this for 10- 15 minutes, about 7 minutes on each side. Make sure it doesn’t stick to the bottom but don’t flip it or poke it too much as it may fall apart.

Once you feel like it is cooked on one side, flip it over until the other side has fully browned as well. Cut a sliver in the middle of your burger making sure it is fully brown with no pink! Once you have made sure it is cooked, it is time to get it ready to eat!

Open your burger bun, you can butter it if you’d like, and then put your spicy beef burger on top! Then put some cheese on top, grated or sliced, and then add lettuce that has been washed and shredded! If you would like to add anything else, like more salad, go ahead!

You can also add sauces like ketchup or mayo, or you could add a spicy sauce to add to the spiciness of it!

And your spicy beef burger is ready to eat!
